BRIEF ESTABLISHMENT HISTORY
BURSA COMMODITY EXCHANGE (BURSA TİCARET BORSASI), was established on September 11, 1924, as “Bursa Grain Exchange”, under the administration of temporary commission members specified below.

The Grain Exchange started to display activity in a rather large store, pertaining to the Municipality during the establishment of the exchange, and located in Yeni Tahal, which was used up to that time as the Chamber of Artisans Guild, and a small warehouse located to the store. In the beginning, the personnel of the Grain Exchange was consisting of just a clerk, three guards and Inspector Mümtaz Şükrü EĞİLMEZ.
The Grain Exchange faced various difficulties during the beginning period of its establishment, and had to overcome various struggles for a period of two years concerning the application of its legislation to its members.
The relevant commission remained in charge until the end of July 1924; since predominantly the same persons won the election, which was held on August 1, 1925, its title was changed to Exchange Commission. Pursuant to the then-applicable Exchange Regulations, two members elected from the Council of Chamber was also participating to the constituted Exchange Commission, since the exchange was an enterprise associated to the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
The second election was carried out on December 15, 1926, and the Exchange Commission was established. Pursuant to the amended Exchange Regulations, Commerce Director of the Region also started to participate to meetings as a full member, along with the two members elected by the Council of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
On June 1, 1926, the abolition date of the Public Debts Administration, a second exchange was established in Bursa, in addition to the Grain Exchange, by courtesy of the Entrepreneur Committee elected among the Council Members of the Bursa Chamber of Industry and Commerce; the relevant second exchange was the Bursa Cocoon Exchange

As it was the case in the Grain Exchange, the Cocoon Exchange’s Exchange Commission was also participated by two members elected from the Council of the Chamber, along with the Economics Director of the Region, pursuant to its Regulations.
The Grain Exchange and Cocoon Exchange was merged by the order of the Ministry of Commerce in the beginning of the calendar year 1928, under the name of Bursa Commodity and Grain Exchange, and the accounts and documentations thereof, which had been kept separately up to that time, was joined, and started to be administrated by a single commission.
On September 1934, it was initiated to adapt it to the Law no. 4355; the adaptation was completed at the end of the year, and the Exchange acquired its new identity in the beginning of the year 1944, under the name Bursa Commodity Exchange.
The Exchange was no more related with the chamber, pursuant to the Law no. 4355; its tasks and powers were extended and it acquired its true identity.
By courtesy of the efforts started on October 1951, the Exchange was adapted to the Law no. 5590 on November 13, 1952.
The Law no. 5174 went into effect as of June 1, 2004
BODIES OF THE EXCHANGE
Elections of chambers, exchanges and Union bodies and the branches thereof, are carried out under the supervision of the judiciary, with the updated member lists received from chamber, exchange and Union database indicating the voting and eligibility qualities according to professional groups, in the common database created within the Ministry and the Union, in digital environment, and according to the principles and methods specified in the Law no. 5174.
Organs of the exchange are as follows:

Exchange profession committees
Exchange profession committees consist of five and seven persons, to be elected by the profession groups for a period of four years. The number of associate members elected, shall be equal to the number of full members elected.
The committee elects a chairperson and a deputy chairperson among its own members.
Principles to comply with in the classification of the profession, the determination of member numbers of profession committees and other issues are regulated through the regulation to be prepared by the Union.

EXCHANGE COUNCIL
Exchange council consists of members to be elected for a period of four years, by the profession groups. Two council members are elected from groups, with a profession committee of five, and three council members are elected from groups, with a profession committee of seven. Also, the number of associate members elected, shall be equal to the number of full members elected.
In exchanges, where at least seven profession groups cannot be established, councils are established through fourteen members to be elected by those registered to the exchange, among themselves. The number of associate members elected, shall be equal to the number of full members elected.
The Exchange Council consists of 18 members.

BOARD OF MANAGEMENT OF THE EXCHANGE
The board of management of the exchange consists of five persons elected for four years, for exchanges with the number of council member below twenty.
The council elects among its own members the chairperson of the board of management, full and associate members, in a single list. The board of management elects among its own members, one or two deputy chairpersons and a bookkeeper, for a period of four years.
The Board of Management of the Exchange consists of five members.
